Snow Characteristics Comments
What a nice surprise and an over achiever of a storm. Expecting just a few inches this morning at the trail head, but a nice 10-12" and upwards of 16" in the Gold Hill area. It was back to winter conditions for most of the morning, but the quick peeks of sun and warming temperatures started to change the snow conditions.

Red Flags Comments
Northwest winds and light to moderate density snow created sensitive soft wind slabs that slid easily on the underlying slick crusts. These would run a fair distance entraining the new snow and making some decent piles of snow when they came to a stop.

Problem #1 Comments
Sensitive soft wind slabs were easily triggered along the steeper ridge lines, these would run a fair distance and pile up a decent amount of snow. These should settle out fairly quickly before more showers overnight.
Comments
It was back to winter conditions with a nice foot and a half of new snow in the Gold Hill area. The snow throughout the day fell straight down with little wind, unless you were up along the ridge lines. A great sleeper of a storm. The new snow improved the riding conditions and it was best to stay on lower angle slopes where the old tracks and crusts were less of an issue.
Sensitive soft wind slabs were easily triggered off the ridge lines sliding on the slick crusts below the new snow. These were up to a foot deep and easily managed as they would break at your skis and sled.
