Threat and error management. The threat today was avalanches in the new snow. I managed the threat by keeping my angles below 30 and if steeper for a bit it, choose small low/no consequence terrain.
I had a nice talk with Uinta forcaster Craig Gordon, who I was excited to run into hard at work investigation a avalanche and was nice enough to share his knowledge!
Today I saw -
natural avalanche magically appear while I was converting.
cracking.
a lightning strikes twice slide (broke 6 inches then an hour later broke 2 feet deep in run-out of previous)
I intentionally triggered a slide
Lots going on today snow movement wise. Went from 0 slides to 5 in 4 hours, a new one every lap.
Basically high probability, low consequences. If you had to choose a day for a lesson from the dragon today might be a good day to pick maby, But by keeping the angles down I'd rather just take my lessons by talking to Craig, snow inside your eyelids doesn't sound that appealing.
Photo,
Grauple layer
Grauple layer on card
2-3 density changes in new snow.
Cracking on a favorite test slope. 3 layers noted
