Comments
Kinda been avoiding No Name Bowl since the big storms began, I knew there was a fairly thick layer of faceted snow that all the new snow in the last month or so had buried. The main difference between No Name and the Monitors is that it hasn’t avalanched in a big way all year. There’s stills some facets down lower in the pack but the large slab on top has compressed this layer, rounded the facets and seemed to have bridged over the week layer. The only instabilities noted we’re shallow soft slabs releasing off the ridge line only taking yesterday’s new snow, I think yesterday’s snow had a little of the SE wind on it and it landed on super light density snow, with maybe a bit of faceting from the previous days. You could only get these soft slabs to release on the steep roll over at the top of the bowl and they didn’t pack much of a punch. It stayed cold with minimal sun today and I would think the S facing will still be dry in the AM. I also noted a skier triggered soft slab in the top of the bowl that must have run yesterday in the far skiers right side of the bowl which would’ve been wind loaded from the SE winds yesterday.
