Comments
It was snowing S2-S5 the entire duration of our tour today from about 5:50-10:20 a.m. The wind was blowing from the South and West above 6400' - consistently light to moderate, and gusting strong in exposed areas of the ridge. The snow and wind were enough to make a quarter mile of skintrack completely disappear in 15 minutes, even in the very sheltered brush between the LZ and indicator hill. There was 8" of fresh in the parking lot before 6, and more up on the ridge. Low elevation solar aspects had a hard crust 10-12" down, but indicator and the main ridge around 7200' were bottomless. Lots of sloughing happening on steeper slopes, and poor bonding of the new snow to some areas of the underlying crust. We never climbed above 7200', and never observed any danger above moderate.
