Comments
Headed up Willow Heights to the Monitors today, the S facing on the way up was composed of about 8 to 10 inches of light density snow on a firm base and skiing out the due S facing in USA Bowl around 3pm the snow was still dry and light. Went there intending to ski them so I guess dropping a few cornices was alright, and that’s what I did with no results, not even a long running sluff could be coaxed to move. The cornices in W Monitor are large and overhanging but the the cornices in S Monitor are large but not overhanging to the point of breaking off without some serious work, that being said I still avoided walking out too far on them but felt alright traversing under them. Not really any signs of instabilities today, no wind transport or cracking or collapsing and most of the big lines in the Monitors got skied.
Photos: cornice drops with no results, large cornices in S Monitor, and just a little cracking on the ridge line but not representative of the slope
