Comments
I unintentionally triggered two long cracks at 8600 ft elevation just after 5 pm as I skied down a second run. This was in an ~ 250 ft x 250 ft opening in the trees on a small roll over. The cracks propagated out in a wide V from my ski tips. No cracking or whomping on the skin track up or first ski down. An occasional instance where the ski punched 1' through weak snow. Ski line at the point of cracking was about 100 ft from the skin track.
Heavy dense snow fall and windy this afternoon. 2"+ accumulation in the skin track on the second lap up. Lower down, on the ski out, the skin track was mostly full. At lower elevations, the snow is extremely weak, heavy, and saturated with water.
