Scary moderate is right!
Dug a snowpit on 9000ft NE facing @35d slope. ECTNR. The snowpack was 250cm in this location, we tested the top 130cm. Consistent 4 finger hardness with buried fist facets approx 180cm from the ground.
No recent avalanches were observed but we could see sign that several major paths on both NE and SSE had run at some point prior to or during the Jan 17-21 snowpocolypse.
We probed across the middle of a NE path and noted 250cm depth out side of the path and 180cm depth within the boundaries of the path. Hard telling not knowing where the weakness was, we didn’t dig in the path.
Also noted strong snow transport atop box elder.
