Problem #1 Comments
Went up to ski the birthday bowls for the 32nd year on my birthday. I found one of the more tricky snowpacks for this day and stayed on slopes less than 30deg. I was able to find the near surface facets in protected areas about 20 inches below the surface. (see photo) I found ECT 10 in protected areas with excellent propagation and evidence of an avalanche from yesterday. The avalanche reported by others failed on this same faceted layer at 7000 ft. on a 32 deg. NE slope. I submitted a separate avalanche report as well.
photo 1. near surface facets buried 12 inches down.
photos 2-5 avalanche at 7000ft.
