Comments
Went up Red Pine to take a look at No Name Baldy and Lake shot. A pit on a North aspect at 9800 feet showed a deep strong snowpack.
As we neared the top of the subridge towards No Name Baldy, the snowpack became weaker. Approximately 20 cm of dense wind effected snow overlay a variety of facets. We dug a quick pit a couple hundred feet below the LCC/AF ridgeline NE facing, and got a CT7 Q2 shear 40 cm down. We decided to turn around there and not push to the ridgeline which would've put us in more heavily loaded terrain.
Overall, the snowpack up high in that area was weaker than expected. Doesnt seem like currently much propagation potential outside of very heavily wind loaded areas though.
