Little to big via days. Beautiful day. Surface hoar days fork. Noticed on decent by Summer road/trail at end of days draw in whippy small Aspen's but might have been higher. Cue the sparkles. Widespread surface faceting w loud riding. Full sun, No wind, Roller balls and bit of skinglopping.Other than heat, no instability seen past few days. Gregg's report from yesterday is spot on. I didnt catch the crust layer but did notice the band of sugar snow in middle of 3' deep snowpack oingo boingo, n yesterday south of Mill a basin(9500', n facing). The mid level sugar is weaker than the grd level facets. A lot of areas with 2' of snow are top to bottom sugar (donut falls, west facing, top of ridge on down. Most areas with thin snow are loose, you can stick your arm all the way in and egg beater it around. Cool temps past couple of weeks, thin pack has weakend a bunch. Thick pack has strengthened a bit. Way more wind erosion than wind deposits Avy forcast pulled the persistent weak layer off the advisory and I for the first time this year pulled the gloves off a bit, hitting some ne, above 9500' longer lines w consequences if slides. Hit days draw, I couldn't tell where thx giving or Xmas skier triggered repeater was. Snow is real loose, and ski pen is deep, but didn't sluff n didn't hit rocks but some of the chokes you gotta pick your way slightly. Snowpack in general is still borderline preseason. Some shots still have rockbands that aren't there at full tide. Not many tracks considering. I love Mon snow. a lot better than sat storms. Fantastic week for touring.
