Red Flags Comments
checked out low to mid elevation snowpack and wasn't surprised to find a 50 cm cohesionless snowpack with snow no denser than 4F, and that's being generous. Impossible to test as failure/collapse/propagation occured upon any attenpt at isolation. Weakest of the weak is the basal facet layer 10 to 15 cm thick. 4 to 5 mm facets. NNE facing 7100' slope.
Comments

1. Shallow, weak snowpack.

2. Small surface hoar development on shady N facing terrain.

3. Normally frozen-over creek is open and running.

4. Localized collapsing, small cracking.

The small surface hoar and underlying NSF made for fun, fast sliding conditions on very low angle, shaded slopes.
