Red Flags Comments
On upper elevation, northerly facing slopes, the weakest snow is the well developed facets on the ground. However, the entire shallow snowpack will continue to weaken, including the buried crusts.

Comments

The below photo says it all - weighting the slope just above the pit wall easily caused failure on the weak facets on the ground. These facets formed from the September snow, and are mostly limited to slopes facing northerly, above about 9,500'.

Above the facets are a couple of disintegrating crusts, with weak snow beneath the upper crust.

On the plus side, the snow is melting on the sunny, southerly facing aspects, so the next storm will land on dry ground there rather than weak snow.
