Comments
Route was from the Cardiff Fork parking lot in BCC too Cardiac Bowl, basically the only spots in the whole drainage with old snow are Cardiac Bowl, Hansen's slide path NE facing and LSB. At 10200ft on Hansens there was about a foot and a half of total snow with 4 to 5 inches of new light density from the last few days. Quick pit in a wind sheltered area revealed a mixture of loose large grain facets sandwiched between a couple of rapidly decentagrating crusts with a easy sheer on the six inches of well developed facets at the ground. A pit in the starting zone of Cardiac Bowl reveal basically the same structure but with 2 feet of overall snow and a bit firmer wind crust under the new snow Both locations are holding weak snowpacks and without much snow in the forecast and clear cold nights they will continue to weaken. On the upside there is only a small percent of terrain with this weak snow, high, north and protected will be the most suspect terrain when we do get a decent load Photos:-) snow pit in Hansens and the snow pit in Cardiac Bowl with the weakening crust still intact and the faceted snow sandwiched in between the crusts, large grain facet at the ground, and the main hazard out there right now, rocks!
