Headed out to look at the surface hoar layer, and see if the warm temperatures or rain had reached the layer and changed it in any way. Below pit was on a northerly facing slope, at 7,600' - the same surface hoar layer, still obvious and still weak. And an ECT (Extended Column Test) had a low score of 11, with full propagation. I looked it up, and it's the same test result I got a week ago in this area. So no strengthening from the last time I was in the area. I would assume this weak surface hoar layer is even more likely to not have strengthened at the higher elevations, too.... Bottom line: could still be triggered by a person, and will probably become more active with loading. But with more warm temperatures in the forecast, there is still a possibility it could warm, especially at the lower elevations.

Obvious large crystals of surface hoar taken from the buried layer, though it was melting fast on the shovel.

In general, at these lower elevations below about 7500', it's a wet, punchy snow pack that needs some cold temperatures. Large roller balls easy to initiate on northerly facing slopes, wet sluffs would be possible, mostly on steep, shady slopes.
