Mainly skied from 9400' to 8k on NE facing terrain with slide angles being on the upper half of the run. I did a few pole pits on the way: the lowest at 8200' failed on buried surface hoar around 2' below the surface. It almost took medium pressure, so the snow there seemed to be healing, but the persistent layer was still preserved, it was definitely the most sheltered location being thay low where we were skiing.. The middle pit at 8800' failed on buried facets, and the column took more pressure to break, facets seemed to be healing to rounds. The upper at 9k was the strongest and actually failed on a density change around 1.5' down, then broke on buried facets after that with a lot of pressure, they were also rounding.

this just goes along with what the forecasters have been saying, weaker snow down low in logan, ogden and park city, so it may be a good idea to be careful in steep terrain at mid and lower elevations, especially sheltered, if you find yourself there.
