Nothing really changed much in the last few days except further weakening of the surface with facets and surface hoar. I did discover another potential weak layer when we get an new round of snow, and this layer will not be destroyed by wind before the storm. I haven't been skiing west facing aspects much after the last storm and I spent most of the day today on W, SW, NW and discovered there is a heat crust with fairly large grain facets forming under it, I noted this weakness from 8500ft, up to 10500ft. The crust is not very stout but it cracks out and cleanly fractures on the inch or so of facets underlying it, this crust might hold more weight and release larger avalanches than the slopes with only surface faceting or surface hoar when we get our next decent load of weight, definitely something to keep in mind if we get a decent load of snow.
