Snow Characteristics Comments
I rode shaded n facing 7200-8300' in and out of trees. There is a lot of surface facets. Found pockety surface hoar/ feathers in open areas all the way up to as high as I went, 8300'. Facet sluffs getting heavy and can easily push people off their feet in places (we had 1 in our party pushed, but he escaped). Doubt any new snow will play nice with these surface facets that are not playing well with themselves. There is still a pockety wind crust below the Xmas storm that might make a nice bed for avalanches if we get additional loading. Riding excellent in shade/ where protected, but getting harder to find untracked. Refresher tonight will be nice-but doesn't sound like much . Q-where is the surface board? how much load? Will it bond? How will s facing be?
