Dug a pit at 9200ft, NE facing, 35 degree, wind sheltered slope between Georg's Bowl and the Catchers Mit, total snow pack was 42" did get a clean shear about 2 feet up from the bottom but it was not too alarming took some prying at the back of the column to release it. I'm thinking this might have been some faceted snow that formed on the surface after the thanksgiving weekend storm, then was buried by last weeks snow, this area is super protected and doesn't see the light of day this time of year. The rest of the snow pack looked fine, damp compactible snow at the ground, one finger dense snow below last weeks storm snow and no instabilities in the new snow. I did notes some shallow wind slabs in the High Pockets that most likely released during yesterdays wind storm they looked fairly fresh.
