Problem #1 Comments

Intentionally triggered a small soft slab, 8" x 16', running 250 vrt', ENE at around 9000'.

Increasing Danger
Problem #2 Comments

The fresh snow became moist and somewhat sticky due to rapid warming. Natural and triggered wet sluffs will probably become more likely as the fresh snow is warmed by daytime warmth in the next couple days.

Comments

Breaking trail, trudging and riding through the deep buttery spring snow was not easy, but certainly a good workout.

Cracking like this indicates soft slab instability. I intentionally triggered a small avalanche nearby shorty after taking this picture.

The snow immediately was affected by solar heating as the sun began to break out of the clouds, and as the roof of the forest heated up, tree bombs became rather frequent. Both of us got dusted a few times by large clumps falling uncomfortably close.
