Headed up Red Pine in search of dry snow, skied a NW facing slope in the AM and it was still dry, went there first because you have to hike up W, SW facing to get there and didn't want to deal with wet activity later in the afternoon. The air temperature was heating right up so we decided to go to the highest N facing spot in the Drainage, White Baldy, the snow stayed dry all day up there but it did have some patchy wind skin on the main line. Decided to dig down with my hand to see if there was layering like Cardiac Ridge had and there was, the new snow was sitting on a Wind\ heat crust with graupel and a thin layer of facets under it, in the top of the main shot the new snow consisted of sugary faceted snow mixed with graupel not the best combination to have in the starting zone with a storm on the way. I wasn't to worried about the layering today because there was no wind load or slab on top but it's something to keep in mind when we get a new load of snow or strong winds. There was some wet activity on W and E but it seemed very minor which was somewhat surprising given the heat. Did note on large point release of the E facing above the lake that occured this morning.
Photos: point release above the lake E facing, minor wet activty on W facing, dry snow on high N.
Moderate for wet activity with the forecasted heat wave
