Comments
This observation has been made a few times but is an increasing concern as the popularity of the Wasatch continues to increase. More and more I see skiers that are making choices that at times put themselves at increasing risk but also having no thought to what there actions are doing that may be adversely affecting the safety or at the very least the enjoyment of others that are also visiting an area. Today while skiing the Monitors we made our way to South Monitor to discover a skin track coming out of the bottom and going straight up one of the most skied lines in the bowl. Not only did it completely ruin that entire portion of the slope for skiing, but it was put in an area that does have the potential to slide and directly under a cornice. Very poor judgement to have left them exposed for the 45 minutes or so that it took them to skin out. This is a trend I am observing more and more in the Wasatch, skiers putting in skin tracks that are not in the safest of locations, but also in the process ruining entire slopes that would have other wise been a great ski run for others. I am not sure how we can change this trend but more thought needs to be made about using existing skin tracks that are already in place, and in a safer location, rather than blazing a new one that can either put themselves at risk or destroy a slope that others could enjoy, or both. Risk management is the most important thing to remember to keep you and others around you safe. But Slope Management is something that so many users are giving no or very little thought to.
