I headed back up to Duke today and was pleasantly surprised to find a foot of fresh low density snow. Once on the ridge line I noticed the trees were rimmed white and the cornices had grown quite a bit since last Thursday. I kicked a few cornices above the SE aspect which triggered one sluff that made it's way to the valley floor. I measured the snow just below the ridge line, albeit not the best place to probe due to scouring from NW winds, at 185cm. Mid-slope, on the NW aspect, I observed one large slab above a roll over which I promptly avoided by ducking into the trees, however; not all the open slopes at my location presented wind loading. Looking out at the steep east faces to the west I observed several point release sluffs and one manageable natural soft slab avalanche.
