Comments

It was full on winter in the mountains today. Lots of wind, snow and cold. The riding was good on all aspects although the north and west wind was starting to have its way on many slopes.

There were plenty of pockets of sensitive soft slabs. We stayed on mellow slopes but had a few short test slopes that fractured up to 40 feet wide. We also had several sympathetic slides release from around 50 feet away. Most of the soft slabs failed on a thin layer between yesterdays and todays storm snow. There was nothing that failed down into the older layers of snow.

Since we were on slopes under 30 degrees we weren’t worried about the small soft slabs but we stayed away from any larger steeper slopes. The wind was raging in the high country and tomorrow could be very interesting.
