Weather Comments
Totally calm in USA bowl, but light to moderate wind--sufficient to sculpt and carry snow--blowing up the monitors and across the ridge. Unusual NE direction might build wind pillows/cornices in unexpected places. Also cold! Started at -3° and warmed to 8°F so south-aspect snow still good.

Snow Characteristics Comments

Low density snow on thick right-side-up snowpack made for excellent riding. New snow continues to consolidate into connected slab, perhaps offering opportunity for bridging effect. Hopefully thick insulating snow load--and resultant lower temperature gradient--will start the facets on a rounding trend.

The distinct 1-2mm freezing rain/rime crust from Dec 17 that was seen yesterday on North facing 9,000 was not found today on Southwest facing 9600.

Midday snow transport out of South Monitor. Sure ain't the same wind direction that built the cornices in the photo!

Cones suggest snow pack settling and getting denser.
