Poor Snowpack Structure
Red Flags Comments
The heavy rimed snow was pasted like plaster onto widespread very weak faceted snow, holding things together for now. In many areas this added strength to the fragile snowpack, which isn't a great thing since now more snow and weight will need stack up on the weak underlying sugary crap before avalanching, and a persistent, potentially long lasting problem is developing.

Problem #1 Comments

With several more inches tonight, fresh wind slabs will develop at upper elevations. Some may build up enough to break the rime layer and step into old snow. Avalanches may wash out all the weak faceted snow to the ground.

Persistent Weak Layer

Increasing Danger
Problem #2 Comments

A tricky pattern of persistent slab activity is developing. A slab layer is forming currently, capping widespread very weak faceted snow on all aspects and at mid and upper elevations.
