Snow Characteristics Comments

Rain/snow line was around 7,000'. Looking at other observations, we won the snow lottery with a big 2 inches up high. Snow was mostly graupel and made some of the crustier areas a bit more manageable. Snow below about 8,500 had not completely refrozen and was punchy. Below 7,000, what snow is left is pretty saturated and sticky.

Avalanche Problem #1
Problem #1 Comments

Didn't note any avalanche problems. With calm winds and hardly any new snow, we did not note any new wind slabs, not that we could see farther than 5 feet in front of our skis. There were some old, hard, shallow wind slabs that would crack out right at your skis, but they wouldn't move, and had no energy at all. Also, although there was damp snow at lower elevations, it was cooling and wasn't going anywhere. With sun tomorrow, I could see some of the lower elevation areas getting sloppy with wet loose slides possible; however, give that it won't be the first time they are warming up, doesn't seem like it would get too out of hand.

Photo of the fog hanging around the upper elevations.
