Snow Characteristics Comments

Upper Bowls in Cardiff are variable, a not so nice combination of wind crust, sun crust and patches of loose faceted snow, I would be lying if I called it powder, wait, did I mention a thousand old tracks. Breakable sun crust on the south facing. Never warmed up enough today to soften the south facing.

Comments

Went to Cardiff Fork on a search for scraps, noted a lot of wind damage in the high exposed terrain, a couple turns in soft faceted snow then bam! doing fifty miles an hour in the back seat on breakable wind crust. One thing of note is only the surface is faceting out in Cardiff, unlike the thinner snow-pack areas I have been to this week that are becoming unsupportable, {No Name, West Willow}, there"s about twice as much snow in Cardiff than the other terrain I visited this week, more snow equals stronger snow pack and a slower rate of faceting due to less temperature gradient in the pack. Forecasted warm temperatures may heal the surface faceting in Cardiff before the next storm, not so sure about the thin areas with a deeper facet problem. Photos, grey flat light day in the hills, Tracks even in little pokes I haven't visited in years
