Comments

Went to the western Uintas today to escape the holiday crowds, had a look at the snow on a NW facing wind protected slope at about 9000ft, around three and a half feet total snow pack, seemed like a fairly stable snow pack for that area. The pit revealed about a foot of medium to light density new snow on top of a one finger slab all sitting on about 8 inches of damp facets at the ground interface. Compression test revealed a fairly stable snow pack, the weakest layer was the damp facets under the slab but I really had to smack the crap out of it to get it to fail.
