Hi Drew, Very cold yesterday. I had to keep moving to stay warm, so this pit was a fast one and I didn’t spend much time getting specific. I went to find some deep snow to see what was going on. In the deeper spots I feel the the pack is reasonable strong. Also, with these really cold temps, I believe the snowpack is relatively un-reactive and thus the high scores. However, if one were to go to a location that had slid before where the snowpack is much shallower it is a very different story, Ie. Much more reactive and the scores much lower on the NSF and SH layer above the denser early December snow below . Folks need to continue to watch their slope angles and use good route finding techniques in suspect terrain where persistent weak layers are likely present. I think when it warms up next week, the weak layers could become more reactive, DJR
