Just a quick note from today.

Saw a few explosive triggered slab avalanches from over the last few days. Obviously, things are not near as sensitive as they were but interesting that snow safety was still able to produce some slab avalanches.

The weakening snowpack is no new story. The thing that caught my attention today was that this weak snow is not only relegated to north aspects but prominent on east and west aspects especially in the higher elevations.

Last, I captured another dataset documenting the faceting that occurred since Monday (chart below- faceting occurring when the orange bars are above the red line).

The result of the faceting is obvious by looking at the snow surface. The grains have turned from new stellars which fell last weekend into small grained faceted crystals (photo below).

Bottom Line: Anticipate slab avalanches during and after this storm if it actually produces a good shot of snow.
