Snow Characteristics Comments

Snow stayed dry on the high NW through NE, was damp on the E,S, and W and damp on all aspects at mid and lower elevations. The wind and the two inches of snow did wonders for the skiing quality. There were some areas with a slight wind crust, and also some wind scoured areas in the terrain covered.

Comments

Went to Cardiff Fork not expecting great skiing but was surprised by the improvement from the wind, smoothing everything out and the 2 inches of dense snow as frosting on top. Ski penetration was about boot deep with a spongy base underneath. The breeze seemed to keep the snow surface in-tacked on the N and the NE facing aspects, E was damp by mid day. Did note some wet activity on the SE,S and SW but nothing major. The wind drifts that were reactive yesterday seem to have settled out and were non-reactive today. Messed around with a few stiff wind drift, still could get them to crack but not move even in steep terrain. Photos.

Wet activity on SE facing Cardiac Ridge, Se facing Cardiac Bowl, S facing rock slab on Cardiac Ridge and up from the Ivory slabs.

What a difference 2 inches of dense snow and some wind can make.

Might want to be packing skin wax the rest of the year, unfortunately I wasn't.
