Went back to Cardiff today to stay on high N, NE facing terrain, sun was cooking everything else. New snow was well bonded to the old surface on the north end of the compass. Only instabilities noted were minor wet activity that was only affecting the new snow and not the bed surface, and some shallow sluffing in steep radical terrain. People were really getting after it today, steep radical lines were being skied without incidence. Snow on the north end of the compass stayed dry all day, E,S,and W were all damp by mid day. Booting seemed like the preferred method of travel on steeper S facing terrain because of the slick underlying bed surface. Photos.
Surface sluffing in steep radical terrain.
Booter on the south facing.
Surface sluffing of the new snow only in steep terrain.
Wet activity on SE facing Cardiac Bowl, and Cardiac Ridge.
Thought that Drew's forecast was spot on today, in the areas I traveled, low hazard.
