Comments

Switched up the regular route to the Cabin Run today, walked up Yellow Jacket Gulch from the bottom instead of Bowman, nice change of pace, exit was Baker Springs and out Pole Canyon. Once reaching the ridge of Toots to Boots followed the ridge past the entrance to Depth Hoar Bowl, which had avalanched and stepped down fairly recently probably last Thursday or Friday, nice sized debris pile at the bottom, looked like a cornice had dropped and started a smaller slide then it steeped down into old facets in the main bowl, might be old news not sure. Lots of fresh cornice fall from the W NW winds last night and today, creating some large and long running sluffs into Alexander Basin off the ridge of the Cabin Run (East Chute). Cracking noted in the fresh dense wind slabs on the ridge. Photos.

Recent looking avalanche in Depth Hoar Bowl.

Recent cornice falls and sluffing in East Chute into Alexander Basin.

Cracking in fresh dense wind drifts.

Did note some very large cornices forming on the ridge of the Cabin Run, and Baker Springs holding facets top to bottom much like No Name Bowl. Photos.

Heavily corniced ridge line

Thigh deep cold smoke

Again hazard depends on wind speeds and new snow amounts.
