Snow Characteristics Comments

Good shallow powder, but could feel Wednesday's rain-crust and would occasionally punch through it into loose facets below. Bad traveling conditions for Otto dog, who was swimming and wallowing through faceted snow and had trouble keeping up with me even while hiking uphill.

Comments

Very weak dry facets still widespread especially where pack is thin, which includes lower and mid elevations and higher west facing slopes. Deep facets not yet overloaded by a slab in these areas yet. Consistent CTM14Q2 failures on fist-hard basal layer facets, still ECTNs at 7500' on NE and W slopes in Beaver Canyon area. Dog swimming in sugar and pole basket drops easily to ground still.
