Snow Characteristics Comments

Mixed snow conditions but good sliding on the north half of the compass. Well developed surface hoar in valley bottoms, sheltered north facing terrain and in upper elevation "sinks". Lots of near surface faceting on upper elevation north facing slopes.

Damp snow on south and lower elevation west aspects.

Comments

They're gettin' big in the valley bottoms and in upper elevation "sinks".

Traveled all aspects but east up to 10,300 ft., slope angles to 38°. Avoided east facing terrain.

CT and ECT tests had no results.

Snowpack shows very poor structure but in our test pit, rounding and necking of snow grains were observed throughout the lower portion of the snowpack up to the rime crust. Basal facets were damp.

In the terrain we traveled I would consider the danger moderate. I would still say upper elevation wind loaded slopes with an easterly component would have a considerable danger. Same for tomorrow.
