Looks like the low probability, high consequence scenerio is not going away any time soon. Seams like you need a large trigger in just the right spot currently. Tests have been producing variable results showing how much spacial variability is out there. Mid-elevation, shady, and sheltered aspects still hanging in there south done just about everywhere.

Pic one is a few small pockets that looked to pull out in Maybird at 10k on east aspects possibly on "rime crust" 12 cm down or so.
