Walked up to the Monitors today thinking the skiing was going to suck, reports of rime crust and upside down snow had me thinking the worst. Pleasantly surprise with the quality of skiing. Nice creamy supportable snow on all aspects. With that said still sticking to the lower angle terrain, due to poor snow pack structure. Well if there wasn't a slab on top of the facets before there sure is one now. Heavy dense snow sitting on rotten facets. Hiking out of north facing terrain we experienced continued cracking and collapsing into the buried facets. Did not note any natural activity in either S or W Monitor, or any were else for that matter, seems like its just waiting for a trigger. Photos. cracking in the new snow, high winds blowing on the ridge top, and transporting snow on to the north facing slopes for a period this morning, rime in the trees but not noted on the snow surface, graupel on the surface.
Snapped a photo of the skier triggered slide in the Meadow Chutes from Saturday, E NE facing. Also a couple shots of the Monitors which were getting wind loaded through out the day. Forbidden Fruits right now in my book with our poor snow pack structure and a healthy slab connecting the whole slope.
Hope everyone has a good Christmas, stay safe out there.
