Snow Characteristics Comments
Dug a pit at 7600 ft north aspect on 28 degree slope. Snow depth 22 inches. There was 5 inches of granular snow on ground then about 10 inches of dense snow (3 finger test). Above that here was an old crust about 1/2 inch thick that crumbled easily followed by 6 inches of recent rather dense snow (4 finger test) with 1/8 of an inch of rime ice. Performed a shovel test and caused the column to release on second elbow tap. Interestingly, it did not release at the 1/2 inch crust level but rather at the top of the granular snow.
