Travel today was from Alta, entering Cardiff from the Key Hole N facing, Cardiac Ridge, Ivory Flakes. The main attraction today was soft slabs running on the old snow new snow interface. Pretty easy to initiate soft slab failures in the new snow on steep slopes. Popped out soft slabs in Cardiff Bowl, the Cardiff LCC ridge line, and the Key Hole which I put in the avalanche category. Pics Cracking in Cardiff Bowl, shallow soft slab in Cardiff Bowl, soft slabs on the ridge line to the Key Hole, and debris pile.
A fairly large slide in the center punch of Cardiac Ridge that happened sometime last night provided a safe and easy route up. The activity noted today was either sluffing or shallow soft slabs, and I would think these would be harder to trigger tomorrow. Pics slide on Cardiac Ridge that was used as a safe route up, sluffing and soft slabs on the rock slabs N of the ridge.
Wind continued to blow from the west all day, this pic was taken at 4:30pm
