This area of Neffs did quite well in the mid-January storm and snow depths now range from 1.0 - 1.5 meters. I was last in this area on Feb 5 and was finding the early and mid January facet layers to be somewhat reactive, so kept slope angles in the low 30's at the time. Different story today with a stable snowpack and Low danger where we were traveling.
Was finding a 10-30 cm dense slab (likely due to wind affect) from 2/23 weekend storm with some lighter density snow on top. This area had received some wind loading at higher elevations (> 9500') but the slabs lack any energy. Some faceted snow beneath this slab on North aspects, but quick hand pits do not show especially weak snow. No collapsing or cracking, and difficult to even get dry sluffs to move on steeper aspects.
I travel in this area alot each season and today I was finding one of the better snowpack structures I have seen in some time The snowpack is relatively deep, and although there are some faceted layers, they are not alarmingly weak and I would expect them to continue to gain strength.
Low danger where we were traveling with greatest hazard for Thursday being on solar aspects. There is plenty of light-density snow that is likely to be reactive once it warms significantly.
