Please excuse the brief observation - limited available time to put together a coherent observation ....

Dawn patrol up shortswing and out by 10. Was intending on skiing the runs from the top of shortswing down into beartrap, but the wind really hammered things up high. Wind scouring, fresh 1F drifts up to 1' where some were sensitive to ski cuts, wind affect even down off ridges. I was finding very weak early Jan facets yesterday on NE-SE aspects between 8K-9K in mid BCC, though primarily NE-E. These facets were buried 50-60 cms (18-24") down. Am now thinking it is possible the NW winds may overload those buried facets in some areas. The new snow is also slabbier (due to a combination of wind and possibly denser snow) and it is creating a layer of dense snow on top of yesterday's light-density fluff. Quick hand pits made it very easy to get the top 5-10 cms to fail on the lighter-density snow below. Goggles rimed a bit on the way out at 10 am and a quick look at the snow showed rimed crystals on snow surface.

Felt Monday morning was generally stable, less stable yesterday, even less stable today. New snow & wind may now have added up enough to overload some buried persistent weak layers. Shortswing is clearly not dicey avalanche terrain, so am largely speculating on hazard in steeper terrain, especially areas that received alot of snow and/or wind.
