The snow in this area is generally quite weak and the recent wind crusts provide a possible bed surface. Very minimal cracking of new snow was observed around switchbacks.

Snowpit tests showed very little energy and poor shear quality. In part, compressive test smay not work that well in these conditions (not much slab, and weakness near surface). In contrastThe PST produced an easy result, suggesting that the weak snow is prone to fracture but lacks a slab.
