Snow Surface Conditions
Faceted Loose
Snow Characteristics Comments
Up to 1.5 inch thick sun crust on sun exposed slopes. Loose facets in almost the entire snowpack on north facing slopes at 7500 feet, which was barely more than 2 feet deep. Sloughing on north slopes near 40 degrees in steepness. Good to be on these steep slopes before they are loaded with fresh snow with this currently week snowpack.
Comments
Sought to find a way through the cliffs in the south fork of Woodcamp Hollow. Spied a timbered ramp from above during recent tours. Cliffs appeared formidable from the bottom.
Timbered ramp worked but was steep and brushy. Note visitor from Ogden at bottom right of photo.
Gained mahogany ridge dividing Woodcamp Hollow from Tabernacle Hollow, shared ridge with yearling moose, out of photo.
Found cool icicle and cave along the way.
