Snow Characteristics Comments
The new snow on the south end of the compass in upper LLC had settled out from its 50 inch depth at the end of the storm to about 2.5ft, the heating of the sun played a part in the large amount of settlement. Not a whole lot of hazzard on the south facing slopes due to no underlying old snow, lagest hazzard was smacking rocks.
Comments
By about 12:30 the snow had gone off and got damp on the south facing slopes. Then by about 2:00pm the clouds obscured the sun and the south crusted up nicely, should be interesting in the morning. Pics of wet rollerballs S facing.
Avalanches certainly still possible in terrain with old faceted snow. Noticed a nice slide released with explosives high on West Baldy at the closed Snowbird ski resort. Would think with more settlement of the snow pack these slides would become harder to trigger and less likely.
