Snow Characteristics Comments

The snowpack did get a nice refreeze last night which prolonged the window of supportable snow. There was great Uinta Corn/spring snow conditions as the morning sun warmed the east facing terrain. The polar side of the compass stayed quite firm while I was out till about 1:00pm. A lot of the south facing terrain has melted off and the riding is getting limited in Gold Hill with lots of the stumps, rocks and other vegetation becoming a hazard.

Red Flags
Red Flags Comments
Nothing of note for red flags, the refreeze last night helped to pump the brakes a little on wet snow issues.

Problem #1 Comments

I kept my visit to Gold Hill fairly short knowing how punchy and unsupportable the snow can get on the exit out this time of year. The snowpack help up pretty well with the good freeze last night. I did not observe any wet snow issues today while I was out.

Comments

A few of the local residents are making their way up to the summer range.

It is a thin and meager snowpack out there, with many south facing slopes melted off and the vegetation is beginning to poke through.

A couple pictures of wet slides on east facing terrain in the Whitney area and unsure when these happened.

I paid my high admission price today, but I was rewarded with quite good snow for a few hours in Gold Hill.
