Problem #1 Comments

Where there exists a snowpack, an isothermal setup can be found by the afternoon, especially in thin areas and on solar slopes. On northerly facing terrain, faceted snow complicates the matter further, with moist rounding facets still observed in the midpack.

Comments

Access to Snake Creek and beyond was remarkably straightforward today, with wheeled travel possible until the Snake Creek drainage itself, and passable snowmobile travel thereafter to Ant Knolls, and Pole Line Pass. That being said, the snowpack on solars is nonexistent for most of the surrounding terrain, and the white stripe of groomed snowmobile road is nearly gone. On all aspects, various supportability was encountered, with many areas too isothermal to support a machine or a foot. The best travel, and most solid snow, was limited to the road itself. Having a look around, recent wet loose avalanches can be spotted on east facing Mill Canyon Peak, and east facing Box Elder Peak. Many other avalanches from late February are still visible, with rocks beginning to show in their bed surfaces. As for the snowpack, as low as 8000' on a due north facing slope, moist rounding facets were observed, and these were drier and more angular than expected.
