Travels on the MLH are not straightforward at the moment. A large berm blocks some access at the Spring Canyon turnoff. This can be bypassed with some dirt boondocking in the adjacent ditch. After, a few miles of pavement and melted whoops can be found before continuous snow starts around the Cobblerest CG. Some wheeled vehicles were observed to make it past the Murdock basin turn, but their destination was not verified. Observations of the snowpack take place exclusively below 9600’, where the pack is punchy and not supportable, with skis and feet diving in - roulette style (photo attached). With eyes on some of the higher peaks in the area (Haystack, W Grandaddy, Iron Mine) one thing is clear: there’s a lot of rock showing. With so many folks out, it is an interesting time to remember avy gear if venturing off the beaten path on foot at all.
