Comments

Travels all around Upper Weber Canyon throughout the day in the heat made for good reflection. Of local terrain, upper elevations are smoked by wind, with snow turning brown from blowing dirt. Mid and lower elevations are rapidly losing their snowpack, as are areas that avalanched during late February. This winter struggled to keep up, and now the warm temperatures are putting it to bed - quickly. Having a look at the range from near Windy Peak, there’s no big avalanche activity to speak of…yet, possibly due to the shallow refreezes observed lately. Locally in UWC, there’s a few bigger wet loose avalanches that can be spotted in Upper Mill Fork and near the Weber/Chalk Cr divide (attached). In many starting zones, rocks are beginning to show. In any case, the snowpack has got to be as uncomfortable with this prolonged unseasonable warmup as local observers are.
