The trace of new snow from yesterday was swept away in areas exposed to the wind. We found semi-soft cold snow on protected north-facing slopes. Stumps and hidden hazards are rearing their heads.

Comments

Today's travel took us to the Emigration Summit area in hopes of finding some soft snow on protected, cold slopes. The trace of snow that fell yesterday was mostly gone due to the wind, however, we found decent riding conditions on shady slopes protected from it.

On a north-facing slope at an elevation of 8400 feet, we found the faceted DJL 80cm beneath the surface (1F hardness). The 80cm slab above was hard and stiff (1F to P hardness) and tough to dig through. We thought the avalanche forecast was spot on for this zone.

Recent winds left snow surfaces scattered with debris.

The trace of new snow was scoured in some areas, and drifted in others.
