Snow Characteristics Comments

The mountains got a solid overnight refreeze. I skied Showoff around 1 PM, and I was a little too early for corn skiing. It would have been prime late this afternoon. The bottom third of my run was soft and fun. The snow surface was damp below 10,300 feet.

Problem #1 Comments

A somewhat interesting pit profile, compared to other recent pits, which are a mix of crusts and facets. This slope holds very weak snow overall and appears to have deteriorated during the prolonged dry spell. The XMAS rain crust was impossible to detect and has turned to facets. ECTN23 beneath a 4F+ slab. Gain some elevation, and the slabs are thicker and harder. Human-triggered avalanches remain possible where hard slabs rest above weak structure.
